When I was in Highschool, I had to read "Walden" by Thoreau. There was a part in there that really hit me. It said,
We must learn to reawake and keep ourselves awake, not by mechanical aids, butHow may of us feel that we are asleep. We live our lives day in and day out without being truly concious of what we are doing. How many of us daily pursue an important goal with passion? I think we get caught up in so many little things that we don't prioritize the important things very well. A lot of us don't even realize we are asleep until we wake up. I had that experience last year -truly a "Matrix moment!" Some of you know what I am talking about. (I'll blog about that one later) It is hard to feel that way for me sometimes as a mom. I washed and scrubbed the floor yesterday only to have sticky melted popcicle dripped all over it. Laundry is neverending - I told Neenie we ought to call the website "knee deep in laundry". (I am really not kidding- "Knee deep" is literal), My one year old climbed on to the counter and poured a whole can of salt all over the floor, while in a tutu. Now, how do you punish a chubby little one year old girl in a tank top and tutu staring at you with her cherubic face whilst salt is slowly running out of the can spout like a little waterfall. :) - I am sure when I get done writing this I will find another crazy mess I will have to deal with. but I must say, that parenthood, is truly the most rewarding thing I have ever experienced. I always say, it is the most challenging thing I have ever done, but I have never laughed and smile so much in my whole life! I think that we get so caught up giving, giving, giving, that we forget about why we do it and the end product to what we do - whatever that may be for you. - Don't forget about you goals, dreams, and aspirations. What kind of person did you want to become when you were a kid. Really think about it and try to find an outlet in some form to continue to work on those things. And maby we can all experience our own "Awakening".
by an infinite expectation of the dawn, which does not forsake us in our
soundest sleep. I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable
ability of man to elevate his life by a conscious endeaver.
